My car (originally post on facebook on 9/27/08)

So I can't explain what happened yesterday, it doesn't make sense to me. I was entering Sardine canyon yesterday. I went around this curve, and saw this big truck in front of me. I think it was a dump truck. I looked at it for a while, before it occurred to me that I was going faster then the truck. I hit my brakes, but I just could not slow down fast enough. Had I hit the brakes about 3 seconds sooner I would have been fine. Instead I hit the back of the truck, smashing in the front of my cute little car. I was waiting for the airbag to go off, which luckily it didn't as that is really expensive to replace. But as I was so focused on the airbag, I don't know exactly what happened. I felt the seatbelt jerk my shoulder and hold me back, then I think that I either went up and hit my head on the roof of the car, or something in my car hit my head. All I know is I had a goose egg on the top of my head and it still really hurts.
I was barely able to get off the road, before my car wouldn't go anymore. The only damage to the truck was that it had some of my radiator fluid on it's mud flap. In fact, the driver stopped unsure if I hit him. He didn't feel anything, but he saw my car sideways on the road and figured that is what happened. Luckily a Fire Fighter Paramedic was driving the opposite way shortly (like 2 seconds) after, and turned on his lights, flipped around, and stopped to help. He examined my head and determined I was not terribly injured, but highly recommended I get checked out. He called the police and I called my dad to come get me and my work equipment.
Luckily my friend Amanda was heading home from the school she was at and was able to pick up the paperwork and money I was taking to the office at the time of the accident. She called Cheri, who called Barb to see about getting the other things I needed to return to the office. Barb then called the office for me to let them know I was in an accident. Mike, one of our photo managers, then called me to make sure I was all right. That was fun as I didn't yet really feel like talking to anyone. He told me that I needed to get checked out.
The Officer called a tow truck, who took me and my car to his shop. My dad met us at the shop. While debating where we should get the car fixed, we decided to have the shop we were at in Logan fix it. We called the insurance company back (I had already called them) to see if this shop was on there list or what we would need to do, to get the car fixed there. Then my dad took me home. Where we waited until my mom got home, debating if I needed to go to the doctor.
My mom said I needed to go as the medical bills for this would be covered by workman's comp, as I was on the clock at the time of the accident. But I needed to know where they wanted me to go. So I called Mike back and he confirmed this and told me that with the initial check up it didn't matter where I went, they just wanted a first opinion. So my mom and I spent 2 joyous hours in then instacare. Where this exrayed my neck and my right hand (yes the one I smashed). The doctor determined that nothing was misaligned or broken. Not even my hand. He told me that I would be very sore for the next few weeks and wrote me a prescription for pain meds and muscle realaxers. We then when home and to bed, waking my up every 2-3 hours to check my eyes and make sure that I didn't have a concussion.
I am very sore this morning, but doing well. I think the biggest bruise is on my ego, I really like my new car. The officer told me that as there was no damage to the other car, he was not going to add insult to injury and cite me. For this I am grateful!

  1. Just so you know, you might not want to draw attention to the guy's hand in photo #165 of your Facebook photo album "Good Times."

I'm sure you were just joking about it, but he is not thinking of hitting you. He is actually making a disrepectful hand gesture (thumb between index and middle finger). Basically, it's the Russian equivalent of flipping you off.

Also, feel free to delete this comment. I tried to bury it down here where hopefully only you will see it.
